A pet-focused guided meditation helps us to fully appreciate our beloved companions, whether they’re with us or not.

My cat Binky often likes to join me for my meditations, and I thought it might be fun to lead a mindfulness meditation focused on a beloved pet. Holding or being with our pets is a perfect time to slow down and appreciate all the things we love about our furry companions. Not everyone who meditated with me that day had an animal in their lives, so I led the meditation in a way that works whether you are holding your pet, it’s nearby, or it’s in your memories.

I’m a licensed mental health counselor who enjoys sharing mindful meditations and information about mindfulness. Below is a transcript of a meditation I led on this topic, and at the end of the article, you’ll find a link to the meditation video. In this guided meditation, we mindfully notice (or remember) the physical sensations of being with our animals and the emotions those sensations evoke within us. Join me in exploring the love we feel for our animal companions. Let’s get started.

All right. I’m going to see if my little boy will come down here with me. This is Binky, and I’m going to try holding him during this meditation. We’ll see how it goes.
