One way to deal with the tension between how we want things to be and how they are.

You’ve likely heard that a gratitude practice can benefit you by helping you to recognize positive things in your life — both as you consider things to be thankful for during your formal practice and as you live your life. Your brain will begin to be on the lookout for things to appreciate as they happen.

A lot of times when I lead gratitude meditations they end up being reflective thinking about a meal you had that you enjoyed, or an opportunity you had, or some sort of experience a relationship that you’ve had. We can also use mindfulness meditation to focus on things to be thankful for in the present moment.

I’m a licensed mental health counselor who enjoys sharing mindful meditations and information about mindfulness. Below is a transcript of a meditation I led on this topic, and at the end of the article, you’ll find a link to the meditation video. Join me and prepare yourself to notice what you have that you can be thankful for, and I’ll guide you on some things that you can consider.

Meditation Transcript

We enter into this time of reflection and meditation, and before we get to any particular focus area, let’s take a moment to become present to this space, this time.
