Before You Make Those New Year’s Resolutions…
Try meditation to reflect on the year you’ve already had
It’s that time of year. If you’re not already thinking about a new year’s resolution, you’ll be bombarded with questions from others about how you’re setting your sights for next year. But before you set goals and intentions for the future, it can be helpful to reflect on the past and what you’ve learned about yourself. Given the unusual year we just had, reflection is even more appropriate. Reflecting by using a guided meditation provides the opportunity to slow down and consider your own responses to specific prompts. Helpful at any point (the past day, week, or month), but especially so as 2020 comes to a close.
I’m a licensed mental health counselor who enjoys sharing mindful meditations and information about mindfulness. Below is a transcript of a meditation I led on this topic, and at the end of the article, you’ll find a link to the meditation video. So let’s explore together different ways of reflecting on what has happened and considering how we want to focus as we head into what is to come.

As we enter into this time of meditation and reflection, let’s take a moment to acknowledge and notice any thoughts that might be tempting us away from a focus on the present moment.
